Comparing Monetary Policy Transmission Across European Countries At the summit in The Hague in December 1969, the Heads of State and Government defined a new objective of European integration: Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). The European Monetary Institute was established to manage the cooperation of monetary policy across the national banks of member states. The role of the institute was then taken over by ECB later.
